Access to almost 550 scholarly full text journals focusing on many medical disciplines.
Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection
Find full-text articles from over 550 professional journals on topics in emotional and behavioral characteristics, psychiatry and psychology, mental processes, anthropology, and observational and experimental methods.
Science Direct
Excellent source for scholarly articles in the health and social sciences. Articles usually report on research results and can be quite technical.
MasterFile Premier
Good source for articles in popular and more substantive magazines.
Opposing Viewpoints
Not a bad place to look for argumentative articles on public policy and social issues.
Find Newspaper Articles
Use the LexisNexis database to look for articles in major national newspapers.To search:
- Click on “News” in the upper left corner
- Use each search box to enter a search term for each of your search concepts
- For example “poverty” in one box and “aging women” in another
- Use the drop down menus beneath each search box to indicate where your search terms should appear in articles (helps to focus your search)
- use “In headline, lead paragraphs & indexing” to focus your search
- The Sources drop down menu defaults to “US Newspapers and Wires”
- One way to restrict you search to a specific newspaper such as the New York Times is to click on the arrow in the Source box and select the paper or types of new sources you wish to search
- The Specify Date box defaults to “Previous 3 months”
- Click on the arrow in the Specify Date box to change the date range or to set a specific date
- Once you have entered your search terms, selected sources, and specified a time range, click “Search”
- Examine the categories in “Result Groups” to narrow your search, for example by source or subject – results are listed in order of the sources with the most to least articles.
- You can use the “A-Z” button to list the sources in alphabetical order
